THE CAUSE

Asher Mills Education Program
Starting last year, with a private donation from the Asher Mills Memorial Fund (thanks to all of the participants and donations of the 2020 Fun Run), the Coastal Expedition Foundation started taking the Kindergarten class at Sanders-Clyde Elementary (a downtown Charleston Title 1 Elementary school) on outdoor field trips and providing nature based experiences as well as in-class instruction— and plan to continue providing these opportunities all the way through their 5th grade school year— with beach walks, boat trips, sea kayaking and environmental education. This program has evolved into what is now The Outside In Education Program
Not only is this program benefitting this particular class of students, it is a model in creating interest and demonstrating the importance of providing nature based educational opportunities to all elementary age students in the area.
